She earned her Master’s degree in Community Health Nursing and Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the College of Nursing, SRIPMS, affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. Further augmenting her academic credentials, she pursued a Master’s degree in Sociology from Annamalai University, thereby enriching her perspective on the socio-cultural dimensions of healthcare.

Dr. Girijakumari has also held prominent leadership roles, including serving as the Chairperson for Public Health under the Tamil Nadu State Branch of the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI) for a period of three years. She is a life member of esteemed professional bodies such as the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), the Public Health Association of India, and the Association of Gerontology (India), reflecting her active engagement with the wider professional community.

Her academic expertise and administrative acumen are further recognized through her roles as a Member of the Board of Examinations, Adhoc Inspector, and Research Guide under The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
